Shirkden was founded 30 years ago with our beautiful apricot bitch, Stockmont Firebelle, born in March 1967, bred by Harriet Stock. There was perhaps a good omen in these early days when Firebelle's litter sister, Firesprite, went Best Puppy at the AHCA National in this first year.
A daughter of our foundation bitch, Adrienne of Shirkden produced the BIS winner at the 1974 National, Ch Bakali Cymbeline of Zuvenda. Little did we know that even more excitement lay ahead and when in 1981, Ch Zuvenda Razcym, a son of Cymbeline, went BIS at the 1978 National.
Shirkdens Libra of Ashan was mated with Razcym and from this litter we got Shirkden Shazam who epitomises six generations of Shirkden breeding.
The Shirkden breeding program culminated in our playing a part in the conception of the most well known Afghan in modern times - "Taco", Ch Pahlavi Puttin' On The Ritz who won the National in 1989,91,92. Taco was sired by Shirkden Shazam.
