(SALUKI INTERNATIONAL (ISSUE #9)
Saluki International Issue #9 is now available
- Welcome to another issue of Saluki International, our ninth. In this edition we concentrate mainly on the origins of our noble and illustrious breed, in fact we can safely call this the historic edition.
- This issue focuses mainly on the early writings of the pioneers of our breed, as we feel that it is imperative to explore and constantly re-examine our roots- without a constant reference to our origins we can so easily get consumed in the quest of breeding Salukis that are the 'flavour of the month' and produce a Saluki that is both flashy and a show winner, but no longer a true representative of our breed.
- We feature two articles from the late Hon Florence Amherst; firstly a chapter which appeared within Cassell's New Book of the Dog [published in 1907] and a facsimile of the first ever Saluki publication: The Gazelle Hound or Saluki Shami.
- Norman Ziman kindly translated and allowed us to reproduce a copy of Les Levrier Persan, a pamphlet originally printed in Paris in 1923, which he was fortunate enough to acquire from an antique book seller.
- Sara M Drake PhD traces the nomadic origins of ancient breeds and standards of the tarabian horse and the Saluki.
- Moving into modern times; Brian Duggan gives us a viewers guide and review of Salukis appearing in film, television and advertising.
- Marilyn Evill offers opinion and comment about keeping a male Saluki and the topic of crating.
- Nora Snyers continues to intrigue us with the tales of her lovable trio; Nimrod, Merlijn and Fee and Jack Helder keeps us up to date on the 1995 American lure coursing scene.
