(SALUKI INTERNATIONAL (ISSUE #10)
Saluki International Issue #10 is now available
- Welcome to another edition of Saluki International, our tenth; we hope you enjoy it as much as we did putting it all together. This issue continues our policy of providing stimulating and interesting articles and once again features the use of full-colour reproduction on our cover pages. If you are a new browser to these pages, we hope the following summary of the contents will wet your appetite and encourage you to take out a subscription.
- Re-Discovery Breed Roots Our growing network of subscribers and supporters increases the possibility of making discoveries that enable us to refresh our thoughts and re-discover the roots of our breed. One such discovery, from a new Saluki owner, set Brian Duggan hot on the trail and resulted in yet another scoop; the tip-off had revealed a hitherto unknown sketchbook of drawings and illustrations by Major William Philipson Moss. Major Moss (a trained artist) served, as a veterinary officer with the Cheshire Yeomanry and the British Druze Regiment during the second World War in the Middle East. During this period he acquired two Salukis, which were his constant companions and became subjects for his pencil, charcoal and crayons. Many of the illustrations reproduced have never been seen outside his immediate family
- Major Moss Article To follow on, we also include an article written by Major Moss, on hunting with Salugis in the desert which first appeared in Sport and Country, England during 1946
- Health issues are always at the heart of the matter; Catherine O'Driscoll gives an alternative viewpoint on the use of vaccinations, together with a summary of an interim report which substantiates her findings. A questionnaire on vaccinations is included in this issue and readers are invited to respond. Lin Jenkins gives us the breakdown on the formation of "Salukis in Good Health," (SIGH) which has been formed to create a data base of Saluki diseases. It is hoped that the resultant data will eventually lead to answering some of the questions about health in our breed
- New FCI Standard Yet another new Saluki Standard has emerged-the FCI have just revised theirs, and we are the first magazine to reproduce the English translation. No doubt this new version will cause a stir throughout Salukidom
- News and Views We also include news, views and opinions from around the world
