SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 30th July 1999
I have received an communication from Mrs Ann Shimmin and I notice by her address That she is now on E-Mail. If you would like to communicate with her by this means her address is ann@cranstal.enterprise-plc.com. Ann writes the following: " Just a short note to request a reminder in the Breed Notes 'that copy date for adverts for the next edition of The Saluki is Monday 16th August. I have left copy date so late in order that the adverts can be as up to date as possible-but it is a heartfelt request that all adverts are received by me by Monday 16th August. Advertisers are the lifeblood of any publication-and especially this one-so perhaps those of you out there who have not advertised before could consider supporting the magazine with an advert. Adverts start at £8.00 for hounds which have competed successfully at the SGHC shows- up to full pages at £45. It is the adverts which help keep the subscription price of the magazine at its present level and the committees thanks go to all those who have so generously supported us in the past. Keep up the good work please. Whist I am in the fortunate position of already having sufficient articles and contributions for the Championship Show edition-which is wonderful- I would still like critiques on BOB and RBOB (together with photos of the hounds) from anyone who has been judging abroad in the last few months. Many thanks to all the people who have responded so well and provided articles etc. since I took over as editor- I really so appreciate it. However please don't stop now as there will be another edition in five months time!!"
Zola has sent me some rather splendid news on her puppy, Mumtaz Desdemona: M. Desdemona won Bitch Puppy stakes at Paignton (judge Mrs N Down) and at the Open Show for Kingston Canine Society, she won BOB and BP and then won the puppy group and ultimately was Best Puppy in Show.
I have now received a Programme and Booking Form from Mrs Karen Fisher for the Health Seminar which will be held on 26th March 2000 at The Playhouse, Playhouse Square, Harlow, Essex. The principle speakers will be Dr Jeff Sampson BSc Phil (Animal Health Trust) on Breeding for the future and recognising health problems in your breed. Dr W. Jean Dodds (Hemopet) on, 'an introduction to generic screening for disease. Practical basics about the immune system and disease resistance. Nutrition influences on health and nutritional supplements. Issues related to vaccines chemical and drugs. Introduction to thyroid and other auto-immune endocrine diseases and the Clinical manifestation of canine thyroid disease.'
The Challenge Certificate allocation by the judges this year has been very varied. There seems to be no dog that has dominated the scene. Five dogs, that are all being actively exhibited have been awarded two CCs each.
