SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

SALUKI NOTES: WEEK ENDING 28 February 1998

The 1998 Showing season started with Manchester Championship Show. The judge, allocating Challenge Certificates for the first time was Mrs Kathy Webb. BOB,BCC was Macdonald’s Ch Mabrooka Matarta. RBCC was Stephen’s Bedu Camilla. DCC for his second CC was Robert’s Beguinette Brother Jakob, RDCC was Macdonald’s Mabrooka Khamriy. Best puppy was Veal and Austin’s Fargaze Favorita of Kharovan. Well done all.

Jo Webb has kindly sent me some information on the Exhibition of the Bedouin Culture, Heritage & Art, sponsored by the Royal Geographical Society. The address is, 1 Kensington Gore which is near the Royal Albert Hall. The exhibit will be held between Monday 16th and Friday 27th March in the Society’s House and Garden. It is open from 10.00am to 5.00pm and the admission is free. There is also an evening lecture by Dr Roderic Dutton and Mohammed Shahbaz. They will be describing the challenges facing the Bedu communities living in the desert margins and how traditional ways of managing the land now focus on resource ownership and environmental management. ( ed. wonder if we might catch a glimpse of a Saluki.)

In the BSFA (Lure Chasing) Newsletter the list of the top twenty hounds for 1997 is presented. The following Salukis were in the list starting with the highes score: Duckenfield’s Mabrooka Kajahl (top winning hound), Sinclair-Martin’s Ermcote Peregrine at Merimdah, McCormick-Smith’s Mumtaz Star Sign, Cazeau’s Osriel Unas, Crame’s Barney, Sinclair-Martin’s Gulzar Aahil at Merimdah, Taylor’s Knightellington Yaqan, Sherwin-Clough’s Ermcote Kharrub, Cazeau’s Asayaad Nabzan, Sherwin-Clough Ermcote Hobby. More that 50% of the top hounds were Salukis.

Good luck to you all at Crufts. Unfortunately I am unable to attend. If you would like to pass on any messages, please see Helen as she will be collecting information as well giving me a feel for the atmosphere around the ring. I do hope that it is fun day for everyone notwithstanding the placements.
