Saluki Breed Notes 27/12/96
WISHING YOU SEASONS GREETINGS PLUS A HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS 1997 !!! The following information refers to a study undertaken by Sir Terence Clark which has been put on to video tape and is a valuable visual document for anyone interested in the Saluki in its desert habitat:-
"Sir Terence Clark has lived for much of his adult life in different parts of the Middle East and speaks fluent Arabic. During the last ten years or so he has been recording on video tape the Saluki in its native habitat and has interviewed their local owners and breeders. He has put this research together in a two-part documentary called "The Eastern Saluqi". Part I, lasting 1 1/2 hours, shows the wide range of Salukis in the villages and deserts of Iraq and comments on their history, breeding and hunting practices. Part II, lasting over 2 1/2 hours, shows the Saluki in Saudi Arabia, the Gulf, Syria and Morocco in a variety of colourful settings from the Arabian bedouin tented oasis to the villages on the edge of the Sahara. Although the Eastern Saluki is in retreat in many part of the Middle East as a result of the pressures of modern life, this documentary shows that it continues to survive as a working hound as it has done for centuries and still represents an important source of breeding stock for the West. These videos as a set are available for œ35, inclusive of postage and packing, to cover the costs of producing them." The address to obtain these tapes is; Sir Terence Clark, 29 Westleigh Avenue, London SW15 0BQ.
