SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

SALUKI NOTES: WEEK ENDING 27 MARCH 1998

While a great majority of the UK Saluki world was engrossed with Crufts, Jillian Knight-Messenger was in Detroit, Michigan, USA judging an Afghan Speciality and the Saluki Classes at the prestigious Detroit Kennel Club. The Detroit Kennel Club show is held in an excellent indoor venue and Jill stated that it was similar to our National Exhibition. Centre where LKA and Crufts are held. The BOB and Group 1 (The group judge was Ms Betty Stites) was Am Ch Ariel Sonova Drama of Hasten J.C. Her sire is Ch Hasten Overton High JC and her Dam is Ch Ariel Kanz Malak JC. Owner is Cherry Rosenber and breeders are Connally, Taddeo and Aaron. Jill said she was of a lovely type with a rock solid temperament as the exhibition hall was very noisy and the bitch was unbothered by all that was going on behind the scenes. Winners Dog, Best of Winners and Best Opposite Sex (making him a champion on the day) was Dee’s Thayer Gull owned by his breeder, L.Strutt and R Matter. His sire was Ch Tazi Kgary Sathena and his was dam, Ch Windstorm Dees Kinglset- An. Winners Bitch was J. Terhaar and J. Gamble’s Timaru Vin Blanc bred by L Brabyn. Her breeding is sire, Ch Timaru Zephyrus. dam, Ch Lorrequer Escapade.

It is with saddness that I must tell you of the death of Ch Kasaque Flores of Sabaka due to Cardiomyopathy. She was born on 8th May, 1990 and bred by Helen and myself. Her sire was Saklawi Baksheesh and her dam Ch Kasaque Dharmas. She won her first CC with BOB at Driffield 1993, judge Mrs D Lees; her second CC at WELKS, judge Mrs J Knight-Messenger and her third CC with BOB at Birmingham National 1994, Judge Mr H Kendall. She also had her Junior Warrant. We send our sympathy to Rosemary and Elis on their great loss.
