Saluki Breed Notes 26/9/97
The following information has been sent by Dr John Hudson. SGHC, PRO “ I have news about the heart testing session which will take place at the Club Championship Show at the Sports Connexion on Saturday, October 18th. The bad news is that Dr Brownlie has been double booked and is due to test Wolfhounds on the same day at one of their shows. The good news is that the Wolfhound Show in question will take place next door to us at the Sports Connexion. The cunning plan to please (almost) everyone is that Dr Brownlie will test one breed in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Testing will be by listening with stethoscope only and an appointments system will be in operation. Bookings of appointments will be on a first come first served basis
Chris and Rosemary Lewis will be bringing orders of English (Knightellington even) lamb to the Championship Show. If anyone would like to place a late order for this highly recommended product, please phone Rosie before October 11th on 01270 811070.”The following information has been sent by Mr Tony Parnham, Secretary of The Saluki Welfare Fund: “Saluki Welfare Fund AGM this was held on Sunday 14th September, unfortunately for the second year running there were insufficient members to form a quorum so a Special General Meeting will have to be held, possibly at a show, to ratify the accounts. It was also suggested that the rules should be changed to reduce the quorum from 20 to 15. Phillip Browning, the retiring Chairman, in his report, pointed out that each year the number of rescues increases and thanked the wardens for coping with this ever increasing workload. As a result of this and other factors finances for the last financial year had fallen by about £1000, nevertheless it was felt that the fund had come a long way and was now working well for the benefit of those Salukis in need of care. The new committee is Jenny Ziman (Chairman) Peter Yardley (Vice Chairman), David Graham (Treasurer) Tony Parnham (Secretary) Karen Fisher and Denise Rogers (Wardens), Ian Veal, Ann Jones, Michael McCormick-Smith and Ian Rogers (Committee Members)”
Rosemary Redfern, Helen and myself have been waiting patiently (impatiently would be more accurate) for the last few years, for a Saluki dog which we could purchase and than import into the UK under the Balai Directive. Finally, on the 5th September El Hamrah Mehrab-Khalifa (known as Khalif) actually came from terminal 1 at Heathrow with Mrs. Chrisse Schrey-Grandell the breeders partner, directly to Comptonwood. As you might expect he was not able to leave the property until blood tests and microchip reading was completed, which took ten days. However, it seems amazing that now he is free to participate in everything with our other Salukis. Khalifs breeding is Int.Ch. El Hamrah Zain Zaibaq ex Fin.Ch El Hamrah Bayaad, the breeder being Mrs. Pirjo Gronfors.
