SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 26TH JUNE, 1998

The 75th Anniversary festivities of The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club took place last Sunday, at the Open Show. Unfortunately, we were unable to attend but Buz Faber, was kind enough to fill in all the details. The judges were, Mrs Carole Read, for the dogs and Mrs Lisa Hudson, bitches, with Mrs Karen Newham the referee. Best Dog, and BIS by decision of the referee was Bryce-Smith’s Kasaque Hyperion of Saruk. Reserve Best Dog was Duckenfield’s Mabrooka Dajahl. Best Bitch was Rawson’s Mumtaz Star Maker and the Reserve Best Bitch was Faber’s Kasaque Huntress of Sufeina. Best Puppy in show was Webb’s Manzemar Mahdi. During the lunch break everyone was given a piece of beautifully decorated cake and champagne provided by the club to commerate the 75th Anniversary. Also there was the parade of rescued dogs.

Chris Ormsby telephone to say thank you to those kind people who donated or bought items for the Sudden Death Research Fund sale. Unfortunately the club had been allocated only a small table for displaying the items so Chris said she will have more Saluki items for the Championship Show. A special thank you to Kathy Webb and Jane Pyatt for all their hard work. The Sudden Death Research sale made £250.00.

During the latter part of last week, Sparky and Penny Clarke had their property broken into and their four Salukis stolen. One dog escaped and after being on the loose for a few days is now back at home with the Clarkes. Three dogs are still missing. They are two, ten year old bitches; one of which is a black fringed fawn and the other a black fringed red while the third one missing is a cream dog. If anyone sees or hears anything about three dogs with similar description, please contact Penny on 01865 766415 or Karen on 01279 833855.

Three Counties Championship Show, Hound day was on Monday. After a lapse of a few years without Challenge Certificates on offer, the Kennel Club has decided to reinstate some of the shows that had lost CC’s and this is one of those. The judge was Mrs Jenny Ziman. BOB, DCC was Bryce-Smith’s Kasaque Hyperion of Saruk. Later in the day, Hyperion went on to place Group 4 under judge Mr Robin Searle. RDCC was Duckenfield’s Mabrooka’s Kajahl. BCC, for her first CC was William’s Kasaque Harina, sister to the dog CC winner. Her sire is Ch Mumtaz Moon Magic and dam, Ch Kasaque Eve. She was born on 10th October 1995 and bred by Helen and myself . RBCC was Nefisa Rajiyyah. Best puppy was Webb’s Manzemar Mahdi. To top off a great week end for the Bryce-Smith’s, Ch Mumtaz Moon Magic won the Championship Stake on the day. He returned on Thursday to compete for the over-all winner with the judge Mr J James. Moon Magic won the Stake and will now compete in the special competition held at the end of the year. Well done everyone.
