Saluki Breed Notes25/10/96
An era has passed with the death of Vera Watkins. Now we have seen the passing of the last champion bred by Mrs Hope Waters under the Burydown Prefix. Last week at the grand age of sixteen and half, the Allan's had to say goodbye to Ch Burydown Nazreen J.W.. She was born 21st September, 1980 out of Burydown Ghazi and Ch Burydown Hephzibah. Nazreen, had one U.K. Champion daughter, the Crufts group winner Ch Jazirat Bahiyya and has been the foundation of the Jazirat line.
We have also heard that Roy Goodby has lost Manarah Tariffa in an accident. Tariffa was out running in a field and took off in her usual manner. Around the field was sheep fence and Tariffa ran into it and most likely broke her neck. Our condolences go to Roy.

Daphne Parnham rang to thank everyone for their support and a special thanks to the person who donated the Patsy-Ann "Head" for the Raffle. The Welfare stall took in 176.35 Pounds at the show. At the Northern Open Show, the Welfare Stall took in 38.90 Pounds and the money raised for the year, at the stall, is 747.00. The raffle for the Patsy-Ann "Head" made 145.00. The Sudden Death Auction raised 250.00 with the donation of a Running Saluki made by the Griffiths.
It was wonderful having Dr Bromley at the show examining our Salukis' hearts. Hopefully this testing can continue and we will be able to learn more about our hounds. I know we did not leave the show until quite late in order to have the dogs tested and some people were unable to have their dogs checked because of the long queues. The committee has acknowledged that some people miised this opportunity so the testing will continue at future shows. Our support of the Sudden Death Fund will enable this testing. Hopefully we will receive a report when Dr Bromley has looked at her testing so we can all be kept informed of the state of our breed.
Janet Bullock at the Show was passing a card around to be signed as Dr D. Edward Jones is in the Hospital. Edward is in ward D43, The City Hospital, Dudley Road, Birmingham. We hope his stay will not be long.
Next week we will report on some of the shows held in France, Germany and the USA specialties.
