SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 24th OCTOBER 1998

Last Saturday was Driffield Championship Show. Salukis had classes but no Challenge Certificates were on offer. The judge was Mrs Olive Thomas. Her BOB was Mrs M Bryce-Smith’s Ch Mumtaz Moon Magic. Later he went on to win Hound Group 2 under judge Mrs J. Peak.

The SGHC, pro Mrs K Perkins, has sent me the following information: “The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club is holding a teaching seminar at Colney Heath, Herts. It is located just off the M25 at junction 22. It will be on Sunday 29th November, 1998 from 11a.m. to 3p.m.. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available on arrival. The programme will be ORIGIN OF THE BREED by Philip Browning, CONFORMATION AND ASSESSMENT by Paulene Kendall and SUGGESTED JUDGING TECHNIQUES by Ann Blake. Tickets are £5.00 and available from Ian Veal on telephone number 0181 3370080 between 9am and 5 pm seven days a week.

I have learned this week of the passing of a legendary Saluki through a tragic accident. Multi Ch Baghdad Globetrotter has died. He indeed was a globetrotter, bred in Australia by Paula Bockman Chato and Ron Chato. His father was the Australian dog, El Arabie Thunderbolt and his mother, imported to Australia from North America was Am,/Can Ch Afking Bagdad’s Crimson Gazelle. This past summer he went BOB at the World Show then travelled to the USA to become an American Champion in almost straight shows. Our condolences to Globetrotter’s owners, Nicklas Eriksson and Linda Frisen.
