SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

Saluki Breed Notes 23/8/97

The following information has been kindly forwarded to us, on the newly produced German Book of Champions, by Mrs Val Seitlinger:

“The first ever Saluki Book of German Champions covers the period from 1986 to 1996 and shows 240 Champions with black and white photographs and 4 generation pedigree, spiral bound, A 4 format, weighing 900 grams each. The book is available from:Mrs Brigitte Schwab, Huegelstrasse 6, D-49179 Ostercappeln, Germany, at the price of DM 70,-- plus DM 10,-- for freight and packing. Prepayment in German Marks is requested. It's a wonderful addition to any Saluki library, really a "must have".

Tony Parnham, Hon Sec for The Saluki Welfare Fund has asked me to relate the following information: “This is to remind members that the Saluki Welare Fund AGM will be held on Sunday, 14th September at 2.00 pm at the Sports Connexion, Ryton on Dunsmore, Coventry. Last year there was insufficient number of members for a quorum so a further SGM had to be held to approve the accounts. Without support at General Meeting the Fund will wither, have to change it’s rules and reduce the quorum (it is only 20 now), or be disbanded, so please show your support by attending. Nominations are required for Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer and one member representing the SGHC, other officers and committee members are eligible for re-election.” Tony would also like me to let you know he will be sending off another batch of blood, to the USA, testing for Thyroid conditions and for Von Willebrands Disease. This will be in Mid September.

Last Saturday was Bournemouth Championship Show and the judge for the day was Mrs Dagmar Kenis-Pordham. Her BOB and DCC was Veal and Austin’s Ch Kharouan Anemone with the RDCC to Parker’s Zenarius Belshazzar. BCC, for her third Challenge Certificate was Copperthwaite’s Al Caliphs Sukanti. She was born on 19th January 1994 and her owner was her breeder. Her sire is Ch Al Caliphs Valli and her dam Al Caliphs Geneva. RBCC went to Perkins smooth bitch, Ermcote Ilex with Pennyworth. Best Puppy was Spooner’s Manzemar Anastasija.

At the Hound Association show, Jenny Ziman was telling the scary tale about one of their puppies, from the last litter, which ran off during a recent walk. The owners of the puppy conducted a big search and contacted Jenny, who had the presence of mind to stay at the exact spot from which the puppy had bolted. Although it was a long wait of many hours duration, the puppy did return to this spot and decided to hide under the car, from which place eventual safety resulted. On many occasions this rule applies whereby Salukis will return to the place where you parted company. Although there are all sorts of dangers in between it is still important that we have someone stay, if at all possible, as a pleasant surprise can be the reward.
