His sire is Classicus Hermes and dam, Miskanda’s Prairie Flower. RDCC was awarded to Mrs M.E Parker’s Classicus Zalali. BCC, for her 2nd CC, was Mr M.J. Green and Mrs E.A. Metcalfe’s Altaya Tasmayah at Tasia with the RBCC to Mrs L Shaw’s Linda’s Lady. Best Puppy was Mr N. & Mrs E.S. Stanmore’s Altaya Rakiizah. Well done all.
On Sunday, The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club held a Special General Meeting to consider the proposal “To dissolve the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Coursing Section” Chairing the meeting was Mr Gerald King from the Kennel Club. Two representatives of the group wanting to dissolve The Coursing Section spoke, namely Mr Chris Lewis and Sir Terrence Clark, giving their reasons why they thought the section should be closed. Dr John Hudson, Secretary of the SGHC spoke on behalf of the Committee opposing this motion. There was a short debate and then the vote, which was by secret ballot. There were 66 people against the motion with 22 for, and 2 abstentions. Therefore the Saluki Club retains their Coursing Section. I understand from John that there will be one or two proposals on this issue on the agenda for Annual General Meeting on Sunday 25th March. 2001.
At the SGM I was pleased to see Peter Yardley. He is now settled in his new house but unfortunately does not have any Salukis. He does have his Greyhound though. His address is Ty-Wati, Rhandirmwyn, Llandovery, Wales SA20 0NR
Janet Bullock telephoned with the sad news that Harry Watling (Easternway) has lost his battle with Cancer. Harry was involved with Afghans long before he became interested in Salukis. Lately he has been showing Caryna Aphrodite at Easternway. Also Harry ran the lure machine for the Summer Welfare Rally, hosted by the Graham’s and the Lewis’s. Last year when his wife, Bet, was ill he spend all his time looking after her. He was a very charming and pleasant person and will be missed. The funeral was held in the afternoon on 20th February but donations can be made to the Macmillan Nurses or to Cancer research.
I am sad to report that Pam Maskell’s (nee Higgins) husband, Bernard has died. Last time we reported that Pam was not well. Our thoughts are with her at this time
