Saluki Breed Notes 21/6/97
It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Terry Done. Terry died in a motorcycle accident on the Isle of Man on the 8th, June, 1997. Terry was the Show Secretary for the Northern Saluki Show and a Vice President. He will be missed very much and our condolences go to his wife Dianne.
The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club held their Open Show on 1st June, 1997.The weather was kind in that it was not excessively hot, as was the day previous to the show. We perched ourselves under a tree to keep in the shade and had to move as it was too cold when not in the sun. We needed a compromise of what was good for the dogs and what was good for the people, although the comfort of the dogs takes precedence on these occassions. Kay Perkins, the Show Secretary, once again ran an excellent show with everthing seemingly under control. Daphne and Nick Parnham hosted another excellent picnic. I do hope we can continue with them.
The raffle for the cake, with proceeds to go to the Sudden Death Fund, was won by a delighted Elaine Stanmore. Elaine said the cake was so delicious that neither Neil nor herseld could walk by and not take a small piece. The raffle for the cake raised £102.00. Well worth the effort and a big thank you to Mrs B Macfarlane (better known for her Basset Hounds) for making the cake. Hopefully next year we can raffle another cake.
The judges for the Open Show were Mr Trevor McCrory, dogs, and Ms. Jenny Startup, judging bitches. Best in Show and Best Bitch was Mr & Mrs E. Stansfield’s Ishieya Ustuuriy. Best dog was Mrs S. English’s Glenoak Hafiz of Davick. Best Veteran was Mr & Mrs E Stansfield’s Ch Ishieya Asiil. Best Puppy was Mrs J Davies’ Lusaki Mi Mostra.
Tony Parnham on behalf of The Saluki Welfare Fund Has sent me the following information: “Despite the low entry at the SGHC Open Show the Welfare stall had a good day. The stall made £110.00 profit, the guess the weight of a lovely cake donated by Sue Taylor was won by Marie Bryce-Smith. We wish to sthank everyone for their generous donations and support.”
On a sad note, some of our community has had to say good by to their beloved hounds. Sally and Mick Spooner’s Ch Kasaque Firuze has died of cancer of the liver. Firuze won 4CC all with BOBs. His first CC and BOB was awarded by Dr Alain Campagne of France at Southern Counties 1995, Second CC and BOB was given by Mr D Vourinen of Finland 1997 at Birmingham 1997and third and qualifying CC by Anne MacDonald at Paignton 1997 than he went second in the Hound Group under judge Robin Searle. Firuze was joint Top Dog for the 1996/1997 year.
Norman and Jenny Ziman’s Ch Mumtaz Fantasia of Fargaze has died also of liver cancer. Fanny won her first CC with BOB at South Wales 1991, judged by Helen Williams Her second CC was won at Bournemouth in 1991, judged by Anne MacDonald and her third CC with BOB at City of Birmingham, 1991, judge Diane Allan.
On the same day as her father ,Ch Classicus Baccylides of Tazi , Ann Birrell had to say goodby to Ch Yazid Isabella of Tazi. She was suffering in great pain from a slipped disc. Bella won her first CC at Richmond 1989, judge Mavid Roberts, Her second CC at the Northern Saluki Club Championship Show 1992, judge Ken Allan and was Reserve Best in Show on the day. Her third CC was at Southern Counties 1992, judge Elaine Stanmore
Southern Counties Championship Show was held last Friday. The weatherman promised rain so we were all prepared and the sun shone brilliantly all day. Although it was sunny it was also windy and the poor people from Pedigree Petfoods had their marquee blown down and were improvising as well as they could under the circumstances. The judge was Mrs Marie Bryce-Smith. DCC and BOB was Duckenfield’s Ch Pennyworth Kassim with RDCC to Webbs Ch Cottonore Dameris. BCC was awarded to Copperthwaite’s Al Caliphs Surayya with RBCC to MacDonald’s Ch Mabrooka Matara. Best Puppy was Davies’ Lusaki Mi Mostra. Well done all.
Congratulations are due as I hear Maria Pether will be getting married to on the same day as Paignton Show. Our happy thoughts will be with Brian and Eileen on the day.
