SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 21 JANUARY 2000

The summer of 2000 will be very interesting in terms of the Saluki Show World. This coming year will be the first year in many that we see a number of puppies with more diversified breeding being exhibited. In the past few years I feel our breed has lack a certain amount of choice. It will be interesting also as some of these puppies are coming from the integration of some of the new dogs that have been recently imported. The strengthening of our breed will come through the diversity of what is available to utilise in future generations. If you are interested in finding out about Saluki and would like up to date information on puppies please contact Dr John Hudson, Secretary of The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club on telephone no. 01954 203084. John can usually put you intouch with the breeders.

The second exciting part will be the Overseas Exhibitors that will now be able to compete In the UK show scene. I note in the WELKS 2000 catalogue that Overseas Exhibitors must have an Authority to Compete number issued by The Kennel Club (UK) for each exhibit in order to make an entry at this show. It will definitely be exciting to see how other Salukis from the Passport for Pets qualifying countries compete with our dogs. I expect there will be a few Europeans at Crufts this year sizing up the opposition.

I noted in the Dog Press that there is a statement from The Kennel Club that a hobby Breeder is anyone that has less than five litters a year. Any comments?
