SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 19th August 2000
This being high summer (just in case you hadn’t noticed) we have information of two garden party’s and an exemption show to report. Taking the last first we are advised that, Oonagh Preece and Margaret Worrell organised an exemption show, in aid of Saluki Welfare, under the auspices of the NSC, last Sunday, near Leominster. It was most successful raising £410 for Saluki Rescue.
We also have a missive from Rosie, Chris, Helen, David and Roy dated August 2nd, to all those that contributed and attended their annual garden party, in Cheshire, which states:- ‘Thank you so very much for contributing to our welfare fund. We had another great weekend and the weather was really kind after the previous nail-biting wet week. The Sunday for the classes was blessed with sun and, once again, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We made the wonderful sum of around £950 now that all the dribs and drabs have come in- and we would just like to say a huge thank you for your support. About the same time next year we will do it again. If anybody has any bright ideas that we can incorporate into the “action” please let us know.’
Last Sunday, 6th August, a millenium garden party/barbeque was held at Comptonwood, Crookham Common for the Coursing Section of the SGHC. About twenty people attended and about twelve dogs added to those living at the address. The whole affair was wonderfully relaxed and a lovely ‘spread’ of food provided on a bring and share basis. An informal presentation by Roger Upton about some of his exploits in the desert was extremely informative and enjoyable, giving some insight into the ‘older’ ways of surviving in desert conditions. An impromptu agility course was tried out by some of the participants and Brian Pether, with his lurcher, did the best time with minimal penalty points. The water hazard caused some interest with some Salukis jumping about twelve feet either side to avoid getting their feet wet. Obviously fishing wouldn’t be a means of survival but based upon their desert heritage that’s no surprise. Thanks go to all that attended for making it such fun.
