Saluki Breed Notes17/5/96
I understand that the weather at Birmingham National Show was atrocious. The judge Miss Ann McIntosh had a sizable entry to examine in very difficult conditions because of rain and high winds. The BOB and DCC came from the Post Graduate class, a first Challenge Certificate for the dog and his owner. The winner was Pettitt’s Glenoak Halima of Cairdean. He was bred by E.S & J.A. Hudson and was born on 6th November 1994. His sire is Ch Glenoak Dareyeus and his dam Glenoak Calliope. The RDCC was Bryce-Smith’s Ch Mumtaz Moon Magic. BCC went to Hargreaves’ Ch Kasaque Gabrielle and RBCC to Stanmore’s Altaya Jehzara Maria. Best Puppy was the dog, Davies’ Lusaki Mimostra. The entries for the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club show are 49 dogs making up 69 entries with 11 not for competition and 65 bitches making 77 entries with 15 not for competition. There will be a raffle of a beautifully designed cake with a Saluki motif. The proceeds will go to the Sudden Death Fund. As the committee for SDF is arranging heart clinics and tests for our hounds please dig deep into your pockets to help with the fund raising.
If you read the Saluki column in the Our Dogs edition of May 9th 1997 you will have seen my comments regarding WELKS. Unfortunately, one of those mischievous gremlins changed the print and what should have said ‘no sizeable disruption was caused’ became ‘so sizeable disruption’ etc., thus completely changing my point, that the wet weather equipment that was provided was extremely effective and did not, as much as is possible, prevent the enjoyment of the day.
