SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

Saluki Breed Notes17/1/97

Mr.Gary Peskett, secretary of the B.S.F.A., has sent me the following information:

I would like to inform you of the 1997 dates for the Lure Coursing Meetings run by the British Sighthound Field Association. Over the past eight years these have proved to be very popular with owners who enjoy seeing their hounds running free, doing what Sighthounds were bred for. The venues are inspected throughout and the majority, we have been using since we started so we know how safe they are. Accidents can happen but luckily we have had very few; you could count them on one hand. Often minor cuts and bruises occur but these are mainly through the enthusiasm of the hound running the chase.

The first meeting is 9th March at Sulhampstead nr Reading,
13th April Belper in Derbyshire,
5th May, Monday at Blindley Heath nr Lingfield Surrey
8th June at Shotover Park nr Oxford in conjunction with the British Field Sport Society as arranged with Gay Robertson.
20th July, Falkland Farm nr Newbury Berks,
24th August Brinsbury College nr Billinghurst East Sussex,
14th September at Belper
12th October at Falkland Farm.

It costs œ5.00 to join the BSFA. œ1.one time Registration fee for each hound that is to run with the pre-booked runs at œ3.00 first hound any subsequent at œ2.00. On the day this goes up to œ4.50 first hound œ3.50 for each subsequent hound. Trials can be used before first runs and again before second runs in which the course is reversed, to assess whether your hound will chase the lure. These cost œ1.00 and paid for on the field." For further information contact Gary Peskett on telephone no 01202 579394.

Buz Faber telephoned to advise that she had to say good bye to her chocolate bitch Can Ch Sufeina Jin Gyr. Jinny, as she was more often known, was fourteen and a half years of age. Good bys never come easy. On a more cheerful note, Buz said that Kasaque Huntress of Sufeina has enough points for her Junior Warrent at fourteen and half months.

The accolates for the 1996 Showing Season have now been allocated:

Top Winning Saluki was tied between Marie Bryce-Smiths' Ch Mumtaz Moon Magic and Mick and Sally Spooners' Ch Kasaque Firuze.
Top Puppy was Marie Bryce-Smith's Kasaque Hyperion of Saruk
Top Stud Dog went to Deborah Copperthwaithe's Ch Alcaliphs Valli
Top Brood Bitch was Ken and Diane Allan's Ch Jazirat Bahiyya
