SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 16th March 2001
In View of the cancellation of Crufts, Ann Shimmin has requested us to let you know the following: “The Crufts 2001 Edition of The Saluki is being sent out to all subscribers whose membership is up to date. The magazine committee appreciates that many subscribers pay their dues and collect their magazines at Crufts - if you have not received the Crufts 2001 Edition by the end of March (or if you know/think that your subscription has expired) please contact Don Everton who will sort out your subscription status and arrange for a magazine to be despatched to you in his normal efficient manner. The magazine will of course be on sale at the rescheduled Crufts in May - where it is hoped to return all photographs etc. sent in for this edition back to their owners. Anyone who needs their photos prior to this date should contact Ann Shimmin who will return them in the mail.”
Hopefully some the club magazines will be available at SGHC Annual General Meeting on Sunday, 25th March, 2001.
In these notes a couple of weeks ago we wrote about Wayne Jensen, breeder of the Jen Arabys Salukis in the USA. Wayne had just celebrated his 80th birthday and the magazine ‘Classic Saluki’ Reviewed his breeding records which went back to his first litter on 2nd January, 1951. I have recently had a conversation with Tessa Abbott about her mother, Mrs Hope Waters of Burydown Salukis. Tessa said her mother’s first litter was the 1st June 1951. Hope has been breeding now for 50 years and her stock all descend from her original breedings. Tessa stated that Hope and Carole Adley are awaiting a litter from Can Ch Burdown Hilerica Ulahani, the first Burydown smooth, at this time. Hope will be celebrating her 90th birthday next year. Some other breeders started earlier in the UK like the Knightellingtons and the Daxlores and the affixes is still active but they are on their second or third generation of individuals. Any comments?
