SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 14 August 1998
Houndshow 98 was held last Saturday and for the first time I can remember we had to be judged inside because of the rain. (I am sure someone will correct me and state that it poured cats and dogs last year or the year before). Our judge, her first time awarding Challenge Certificates was Mrs Karen Fisher. The BOB, DCC, for his third, thus making him a Champions was Mr I & Mrs D Rogers’ Labakan Ikteer Takha. He was born on 1st May 1995 and bred by his exhibitors. His sire was Labakan Zaringar and dam Kebijeva Dominique. RDCC was Mrs P Kendall’s Ch Gulzar Al-Mutakabbir. BCC was Mrs D Copperthwaite’s Ch Al Caliphs Surayya with RBCC to her sister, Mr & Mrs PA Gorton’s Al Caliph Sulabha. Best puppy was Mr AR Goodby’s Wahiba Esther. During the show, Don Wieden and Frank Farrar’s Sedeki Jeb won his class which gave him enough points to qualify for his Junior Warrant. Don and Frank are delighted with Jab’s accomplishment as there have not been many smoothes that have won enough points to achieve their Junior Warrant. Well done all!!
The schedules are now available for The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club Championship Show. The show will be held on Saturday, l7th October, 1998 at The Sports Connexion, Ryton-On-Dunsmore, Coventry. The judges are Dogs: Mrs A Birrell and Bitches Miss N. Quadling with the Referee Mrs E Gibbons. The entries close on Tuesday 8th September, 1998. Schedules can be obtained from Mrs K Perkins on tel: 01795 470918.
The SGHC is in need of a photographer. Sheila Harmer, who has held the position as club photographer is now the Trophy person so the Club needs someone to photograph the winners of the club shows for the archives. In addition to the official records, photographs were available, through Sheila, if individuals wanted to purchase them, which was very good for those that wanted a photographic record of their win. Hence this is a useful job. Should you have any interest in taking up this position please contact Kay at the above telephone number.
Iris Moore has kindly sent me a copy of a magazine entitle “Six Sensitive Salukis” photographed by W Suschitsky. The original price of the magazine was 7d (old pence).. The dogs in the pictures were bred by Mrs Angel at the Mazuri Kennels, Digswell, near Welwyn Herts. The article states that a puppy, not a show dog, can be bought for five guineas and full grown dogs costs ten to twenty guineas. Show dogs are more expensive. Part of the article includes photos of a Saluki being washed though most of the photos are of head shots and Salukis being simply ...Salukis.
