SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

SALUKI NOTES WEEK ENDING 14th July 2000

Sorry, we were unable to contribute to the Breed Notes last week, but family matters were top of the agenda. Our son, Alexis and his fiancée Naomi were married in Connecticut, hence we were in the States for that occasion. The wedding was held in the Mystic, Conn. Aquarium, amidst the whales, dolphins and other sea creature. The whole evening was most enjoyable. We have given up day after day of brilliant sunshine and 90 degree temperatures for rain, as we are now back in the UK.

Ann Shimmin, the editor of "The Saluki" the official magazine of SGHC has sent me the following note: "Just a quick request for a reminder in the breed notes of the copy date for 'The Saluki - CH. Show 2000 Edition' which is Saturday 15th July for articles and Sunday 13th August for adverts. Any items forwarded to me prior to this date obviously be very gratefully received - and of course anyone is welcome to contact me, Telephone: 01624 620715 or at my (new) email address - anncranstal@manx.net, to discuss any difficulties that they may be having

As all our readers and advertisers are aware we are always looking for advertising - so celebrate your wins in the new Millenium (or advertise any proposed litters during 2000) by letting the world know about them when the magazine comes out at the SGHC Ch. Show 2000. Thanks a lot for your support."

Blackpool Championship Show was judged by Mrs Marilyn Evill. She chose for her DCC, BOB, Mr & Mrs Williams and Mrs Redfern's Ch El Hamrah Mehrab-Khalifa (Imp) The RDCC also went to another import, Mr & Mrs Mahon's Timaru Valkyrie of Jazirat (Imp). The BCC, for her third and qualifying CC was our own Kasaque Harina. She was born on 10th October, 1995 and Helen and myself were the breeders. Her sire is Ch Mumtaz Moon Magic and dam, Ch Kasaque Eve. The RBCC was Ms L Stephen's Bedu Camilla. Best puppy was Miss S. Harms-Cooke's Mumtaz Greata Garbo of Timellie. Khalif was shortlist in the Hound Group but was not placed. Well done all.

Zola Rawson was chatting to me at the SGHC Open Show about her latest litter and the theme she choose for their names. The sire is "Mr Majestic", which was the name of a movie and also a book written by Elmore Leonard . The dam is Star Maker so she decided to use names of Hollywood greats of the past. Its amusing the diversity of theme that can be used when choosing names of ones puppies.

We were sorry to miss Windsor Championship Show again this year. The judge for Saluki was Mr Neil Stanmore. He chose two new faces for the higher honours. BOB,DCC was Mr D Everton and Miss Z. Gower's Ishieya Karam. He was born on 14th January 1997 and his breeders were Mr & Mrs Stansfield. His sire is Glenoak Gushyar and dam, Hannah of Ishieya. RDCC was Mrs M. Bryce-Smith's Ch Mumtaz Moon Magic. BCC, also for her first CC, was Mr A Rawson's Mumtaz Desdemona. She was bred by Mrs Z Rawson and born on 3rd August 1998. Her sire is Peblu Priam of Fargaze and dam Mumtaz Moon Star. RBCC was awarded to the Australian import owned by Mr S Ham and the late F. Hadfield and Mr K Ham. Best Puppy was Mrs D Copperthwaite's Aliya Vasanti. Well done

The following has been sent by the SGHC pro, Ian Stedman-Brown:

"The first is the sad news of Mary Long's death. She died on the 28th of June. There will be a private family cremation, no flowers please, but donations can be sent to:- The National Kidney Research Fund, c/o A.B. Walker, 36 Eldon Road, Reading, Berks, RG1 4DL. " I hope to have a full obituary for next weeks paper.

"The second is that the man who makes the stone Saluki statues that many people have bought is going into hospital in October and this could be the last chance of getting one. The person to contact is Lana Johnson on 01923 282957. The cost is £20 and Lana can deliver to some shows by prior arrangement."
