SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

I have been sent the following information from Joanne and Paul Mahon:

"It is with the deepest sadness that we lost our beloved Shannon (Ch Jazirat Iskandraya) at nearly six years of age, following a brief illness. Parvovirus was initially suspected but post-mortem results indicate that he died of severe hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, after contracting a Clostridium Perfringens bacterium (botulism). This bacterium is prevalent in decomposing organic matter; a likely source was seaweed he had consumed a few days prior. Distressingly, by the time symptoms are apparent, i.e. diarrhoea and vomiting, the illness is almost fatal. A thorough veterinary examination in the evening prior to Shannon's death revealed no abnormalities other than listlessness and loss of appetite. His body temperature was normal as were all other vital signs. A complete haematology and biochemistry workup performed nine hous prior to his demise was similarly normal. For the record, we took the opportunity provided at the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club championship show to have Shannon's heart monitored and scanned by Dr Brownlie. The results showed that he was completely normal in all respects.The kindness shown by so many Saluki people has brought us a great deal of comfort and we would like to thank everyone who has phoned and sent cards for being so supportive"

Next year we are likely to get a Jean Dodds Seminar, organised by Rescue, and a Marie Bryce-Smith Seminar, organised by the Committee, both in the Autumn. Schedule for the Limited Show was posted to everyone at the end of November along with the call for the AGM, the Autumn Newsletter and a Subscription form for 1997. If anyone is missing any or all of these they should let me know on 01954 203084. Liz Gibbins has agreed to stand again for the job of Treasurer and Roy Goodby will not be standing for Committee.
