Saluki Breed Notes 12/11/97
Tony Parnham, secretary of The Saluki Welfare Fund, has asked that you be advised of the following: “At the committee meeting on 2nd November it was reported that funds were now a little more healthy standing at just over £5000, however, disasters are always round the corner and new ideas for fund raising are always welcome, perhaps someone might like to do a sponsored parachute drop or sky dive. The Gail Goodman book and 2nd Edition of “Saluki in History, Art and Sport” will be raffled next year. Also there will be a new edition of Saluki Mugs on sale at Crufts. In view of the poor attendance of the AGM, a Special General Meeting, will be held at LKA to approve the account, to change rule 4.3 to read “ The Chairman and other Officers of the Association shall hold office until the conclusion of the AGM of the Association next, after their election but shall be eligible for re-election.” and to change rule 8.1 to read “The quorum at a meeting of the Association shall be 15 members....” These two changes should avoid the necessity of SGM’s and the co-opting of officers which has had to take place since inauguration to keep things running. If anyone has any concerns or queries about the rule changes please contact the secretary, Tony Parnham, on 01621 772092. All changes will have to be approved by the Charity Commissioners”
I have received a card today with Alan and Sally (Shelia) Lake’s new address. They now reside at 115 Bermuda Drive, Neshanic Station, New Jersey 08853 U.S.A.. Telephone No. 001 908 371 0797.
Finally, a little news from Jo Webb on what is happening in the southwest: Jo writes: “ From March-October the South West Afghan Club have been holding monthly meetings at Newton Abbot Racetrack. The meetings have been great fun and enjoyed not only by Afghans but by the Any Breed Club where dogs of any breed have been able to compete on the short, medium or longs runs (762 yards). The season ended with a wonderful party with lots of food and drink and a staggering 100 awards. Ch Cottonore Dameris was the Long Distance Track Record Holder, Best Saluki Dog, Fastest Triple Distance and won the Spiller’s Father’s Day Dash with the help of Mike. Algy now thinks he is a track Greyhound, bursting out of the trap as soon as the luminous green hare goes by. Best Saluki Bitch was Sedeki Zuleika and best Best Re-homed went to Grizz Saunders, a rescue who, in spite of being knocked down by a car, still managed a very creditable performance. Maria Pether’s Ellie was fastest non-sighthound over 325 yards and Brian and Eileen Pether’s bitches also got special awards.”
As the showing season is coming to a close for 1997, I would appreciate it if you would advise of any bits and pieces regarding whatever is going on in the Saluki scene.
