SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

Saluki Breed Notes 9/5/97

The West of England Ladies Kennel Society (WELKS) held its Championship Show last week, with Hounds being exhibited on Friday 25th April, judged by Mr. Ben Reynolds-Frost. Following weeks of dry weather this was the day chosen to revise that pattern and judging commenced inside a well appointed canvas and steel building ( can we still call these things tents?). The ring was larger than some we have been allocated outside at other venues and no sizable disruption was caused by the rain. BOB and the DCC was awarded to Higgins’ Glenoak Habiibi at Nolica for his second CC. RDCC went to Bryce-Smith’s Ch. Mumtaz Moon Magic. For the bitches the BCC was won by Moore’s Lusaki Kara Kasaya being her first. She was born on the 7th October 1995 bred by Mrs J. Davies. The sire was Ch. Lusaki Bey Bartalah and dam Lusaki Tirzah Breeze. RBCC went to Macdonald’s Ch. Mabrooka Matara. Well done to everyone.

The SGHC, PRO, Mr. John Hudson has advised me that at the last Committee Meeting a good deal of time was spent discussing the forthcoming Seminar.Unfortunately, the date has been changed from that stated in the Newsletter. It will now be held on Sunday 26th October 1997. The purpose of the Seminar is to assess judging potential rather than being a teaching forum and it will. again , be run by Mrs. Marie Bryce-Smith. Now that we have a rule that no one can be added to the A1 or A2 judging lists unless they have been assessed at a Seminar of this sort, it is likely that there will be a greater demand for places than before. The format will aim at the aspiring A2 judge and preference will be givento people at this level. Those with less experience will be considered if there is space available. The venue is Felbridge Village Hall and at the end, candidates will receive a posh certificate. The committee also decided that this year, nominations for judges for the SGHC shows will be requested at the time of posting the Championship Show schedule in August with a closing date of 31st October. This is designed to give the Secretary lots of time to find out who is eligible and willing to stand. The ballot itself will take place at the same time of year as before. The next meeting of the SGHC Committee has been arranged for Sunday 22nd June.

Lisa and John Hudson would like to advise everyone that they will be moving house on 3rd May. There new address will be 28 Cootes Lane, Fen Drayton, Cambridgeshire CB4 5SL. Their telephone number remains the same. We wish the family well in their new home!

For anyone that may be interested we have just received notification regarding the Saluki Club of America National Specialty (Egyptian Event) which is held near Lexington, Kentucky. The show dates are from 12th-15th June and again it is held in conjunction with the Arabian Horse show put on by the Pyramid Society. Should you require further information regarding accomodation which is offered at discount rates or any other aspects of the Show ask Helen Williams or directly contact Marilyn Lebrach-Brown, in the U.S.A., on 001-206-454-9566 (say you are calling about Salukis as I believe this is Marilyns Office number).
