SALUKI (GAZELLE HOUND) BREED NOTES

Saluki Breed Notes 8/11/96

Unfortunately we were out of the country and could not attend the Midlands Counties Show. Bingley Hall is a good venue and normally provides the necessary attributes for an enjoyable show. Salukis were judged this year by Mrs. Pamela Cross Stern. The DCC winner was Higgins' Glenoak Habiibi at Nolica. He was bred by Dr. J & Mrs. E Hudson and born 6.11.94 out of Ch. Glenoak Dareyeus - Glenoak Calliope. BOB and BCC was awarded to Copperthwaite's Al Caliphs Sukanti. She was bred by her owner and born 19.1.94 out of Ch. Al Caliphs Valli - Al Caliphs Geneva. I notice that she was pulled out in the final six in the group also. BP went to Rawson's Mumtaz Star Maker. Congratulations to all concerned.

As mentioned last week Ken Allan has kindly sent to me the results of his judging the Salukis at the Bundessieger- Zuchtschau, International Championship Show in Dortmund on October 18th. Ken provides the following :- "My Best Of Breed, CACIB and Bundesieger winner was Ch. Khayif Esnan- Kalib, bred by Eva Mackowiak. Kalib, a male grizzle, went on to win the Hound Group. He also won the World Championship title in Austria earlier this year and was the top male Saluki in Germany for 1995. The bitch RBOB CACIB, CAC and Bundesieger was Qfudsayra Har Kala Rachi, owned by Annette Benoit. Of interest to U.K. readers is that Rachi is the daughter of Shamal Shakhira bred by Mrs. Diane Merchant-Giles and is I believe, one generation away from Ch. Shamal Kharaz who was father of the mother."

Some sad news regarding senior citizen Salukis that have died during the last week. We were advised that Sylvia Harms-Cookes dog known as 'Remi' died at the age of eleven years. His kennel name was Mumtaz Bridagoon of Timellie. Also Rosemary Redfern also lost her eleven year old bitch Sabaka Koira who was known to everyone as 'Cilla'. We become such good freinds with our veterans and we truly grieve for them when they go. Our condolences go to you both.
