SALUKI BREED NOTES FOR WEEK ENDING JUNE 6TH 1997
Don Everton, Treasurer of ‘The Saluki’ magazine, has asked me to mention to you that the publication could use some more articles thus enabling diverse views and opinions to be presented. The quality of the articles more recently received is very good but it tends to be a minority of people that participate. It would be pleasing for all those that read the magazine to have additional content from many sources. Should you have any questions contact Don or the Editors Tom & Paula Fryer or simply send in your articles to 355 Hermitage Lane, Barming, Maidstone, Kent ME16 9NT. The deadline for the next issue is September 1st so you can write them in your hammock during the Summer.
A solid gold bangle, as well as many other prizes, is part of a grand draw which is on behalf of the Saluki Welfare Fund. Daphne Parnham advises me that the draw is to take place on 18th October at the SGHC Championship Show. The bangle is valued at an amount in excess of £500. Tickets are 20p each and will be available at most shows prior to the draw. If you cannot attend any shows please contact Daphne or Tony at South Green, Maldon Road, Steeple, Essex CM0 7RT.

As overnight camping was a success last year. It has been arranged for lure racing to commence on Saturday 12th at 2.00pm followed by a bring and share supper in the evening (hopefully al fresco). On Sunday 13th the format will be as previously with lunch at 12.30pm, from which time entries will be taken by Roy Goodby, with judging to begin at 2.00 pm. In addition to yourselves, your dogs and fancy dress please also bring chairs, eating weapons, deep pockets, and classy stuff for the stalls. The stalls will be roughly as before with home grown/made produce. second hand books, plants and any money making thoughts you might have between now and the event. Your ideas will be most welcome. The highlight will be Best Rescue but not forgetting fancy dress and agility. The organisers are Rosie and Chris Lewis, Roy Goodby, Helen & David Graham. The price including food is £3.50 per adult, £2.50 per child or £1.50 each person with their own picnic. Children under 6 years are free. Camping overnight is free of charge but details must be provided well in advance. Forms for all of the above are available so contact Rosie if one didn’t arrive in the post.
Last week-end we visited the new puppies at the Ziman residence as well as Jenny and Norman. What wonderful puppies with outgoing temperaments they are! Unfortunately whilst we were there we learned of the deaths of two very well known senior citizen Salukis. They are Ch. Classicus Baccylides of Tazi owned by Mrs. Ann Birrell and Ch. Classicus Belisarius owned by Mrs. Mary Parker. They were born on September 21st 1981 and died within 5 days of each other. We all dread the inevitable knowing that our, by now, very close canine friends, must leave us. Also, sadly, Samoems Subhandra died recently, having never managed to recover from her ordeal, when stolen from Mary’s home.
