The National Show of Birmingham was last Saturday and what a lovely show it was. The venue was the NEC. The ring for Salukis was large and well lit for judge, Mrs Zola Rawson. Besides the breed judging there was a Easter Bonnet Competition. I didn't see any Salukis wearing their bonnets but three whippets looked very smart in their Festive head-dress. When we first entered the NEC we saw Scottish Country Dancing with a Gordon Setter dressed in traditional attire. In another ring a Dalmatian was demonstrating of how he trotted with a pony and trap. One of the highlights of Birmingham National is their Breeders Stakes. We entered this year with a team of five grizzle Salukis but for one reason or another we were only three on the day which is not as impressive. The Breeders Hound Stakes were won by five matching Afghans that really looked most impressive. The stakes were really great fun. In the Champions Stakes I understand Ch Mumtaz Moon Magic, who could not compete in the breed as his breeder was judging, won 5th in a strong stake class. The judge was Mrs E.P. Hollings. Many thanks to the Committee and organisers of Birmingham National for putting together such a varied and interesting show.
The BCC,BOB, continuing her winning ways was Mrs R.Lewis' Ch Knightellington Zafa With RBCC to our own Kasaque Harina. DCC was Mrs M. Bryce-Smith's Ch Kasaque Hyperion of Saruk with RDCC to Mr P. & Mrs J. Mahon's Timaru Valkurie of Jazirat (Imp). Best Puppy was Mrs D Toveys'Lusaki Rha Rhamen of Tirzah.
I received a note from Jo Webb and she asked me to pass on her thanks for everyone who sent her get-well cards and flowers. Jo said that she has had a very difficult 15 months but hopes now she has had her final operation. She is now on radiotherapy and hopefully that will be the last of the treatment. She said that her recent bone scans were good but the doctors are being very thorough to check everything. Jo did said that her problems did not end there; that her dad had a massive stroke and died last weekend. Our condolences to her and her family.Michael Williams (101547.503@compuserve.com)
