As the racing fans of South West Afghan Racing and Warwick Afghan Racing will know, both tracks were idle during 1999 season.
THE GOOD NEWS IS, WARWICK WILL RE-OPEN ON SATURDAY 25th MARCH 2000, with the first race schedules for 1.00pm and will run on the 4th Saturday of each month, March to October inclusive. We will be running Afghans plus other breeds who can race in our ABC (All Breeds Club) section, so there will be something for everyone
The new Team will be know as WARWICK & SOUTH WEST AFGHAN RACING, (WSW for short!) and will be run by the committee of Mike & Wendy Durant, Chris & Rob Yates, Gary & Andrew Buttriss-Holt and Jan Fielder. All these people are very experienced in the organisation and running of Afghan racing, Gary and Andrew having been on the Central Afghan Racing committee for many years when they were at Norton Canes. The other committee members are well known for having successfully run SWAR for six years at Glastonbury and Newton Abbot. In addition Mike and Wendy were also committee members of Central at the same time as Gary and Andrew in the early 90šs.
We are all very much looking forward to re-opening Warwick track and have lots of ideas and competitions for making your Sunday afternoon fun. We have a huge amount of trophies on offer, the combined number from the two tracks amount to over 220 which will be presented at our first End of Season in October.
We welcome members of both clubs, plus racing enthusiasts old and new, to come along and join the fun to help make Warwick - our longest running racetrack - a millennium success!
For further information telephone Wendy on 01278 723161 or Andrew on 01457 866022.
