UMAIRAHI VAN MAASTRICHTERHOF

Above is a photo taken by Fleur Schopman (Netherlands), of a painting by her Grandfather, of Umairahi Van Maastrichterhof, affectionally known as "Chica", owned by Fleur's mother in the 1940's. Paintings of early Afghan Hounds are quite rare, so we are very grateful to Fleur Schopman for sharing this painting with us.
The Afghan Umairahi was a daughter of the first generation of Van De Oranje Menege (Vdom) breeding in Holland. As you can see from the pedigree below, this Afghan traces back to the foundation of the breed in the UK, it also shows the foundation of the Barukhzy kennels in Belgium, as well as the Vdom kennels in Holland.
The pedigree is almost pure Ghazni, but keen observers will notice the bitch Aruna Of Enriallic on the dam side of the pedigree which has bloodlines back to the Bell Murrays. Enriallic was the affix of Daniel Cronin in Ireland
Baberbagh and Wahsdarb are both UK kennels (Wahsdarb = Mrs Bradshaw's name spelt backwards)
This bloodlines is unique - in that it has existed into modern times. Eta Pauptit (Vdom) bred strictly within these lines for many years from the late 30's into the early 70's when she retired from active breeding. The bloodine has been continued by the Grevelt family in the Netherlands in their El Kharaman lineage, the Orange US line of Ms. Wadsworth, Mrs Erika Rodde of Katwiga Kennels in Germany, all of whom continued to breed with their original E.Pauptit's dogs and actually took over the flag when she retired from active Af-life.
