SHOW/JUDGING SYSTEM IN ITALY
For Afghan Hounds

First, to become a champion in Italy the dog has to get 6 Cac, even if he comes from a foreign country. 2 of these 6 Cac must be got at National (All Breeds) Shows, 2 at International Shows, 2 at Club Specialty Shows. Of course the entry is larger at International and Specialty shows; usually entries at International shows consist of about 10/15 - 20 dogs while at Club Specialties the number of the Afghans entered are now from 20 to 40 dogs. This way to be champion isn't easy as it seems. Generally only one or two dogs per year become champions. Last year there was only one new Italian champion, that came from USA. There are 6 Specialties per year; three of them are judged by foreign judges while the other three are judged by Italian judges. The International and National All Breeds Championship Shows all together are about 50-55 per year.

At Specialty shows the entry classes are:
3-6 months: Baby Puppy Class (Baby)
6-9 months: Puppy or Junior Class (Cuccioloni - Juniores)
9-18 months: Youngster Class (Giovani)
15 months and over: Open Class (Libera)
Champion Class: champions from any country, compete for BD or BB.

At International and National All Breeds shows the entry classes are:
6-9 months: Junior Class
9-18 months: Youngster Class
15 months and over: Open Class
Champion Class: champions from any country can be awarded for BOB at National shows and for CACIB/BOB at International Shows.

· At Specialty shows the dog who wins the Open class can be awarded the Cac. He competes for Best Bitch or Best Dog award together with all the other class winners (over 9 months). BB and BD will compete for Best Of Breed and Best Opposite Sex.

· At International Shows it's the same. Each dog class winner competes for Best Dog but only the winner of the Open class (and Cac) or of the Champion class can get the Cacib or the Reserve Cacib. The Reserve Cac winner can compete for the Reserve Cacib. It's the same for bitches. Best Dog and Best Bitch will compete for Best Of Breed and Best Opposite Sex.

· At National Shows is given only the Cac at the Open class winners. Winners of each class compete for BOB and BOS.
