INTRODUCTION
Never before has American Afghan Hound history been reconstructed in this
form. IMPACT is not geared toward the show dog, instead it offers hard
facts and speclfic figures for the producers. In other words, it pays homage to tbe achievements of those who built the American pedigrees, be it stud
dog, brood bitch or breeder. Photographs in abundance are arranged in an
orderly fashion to support the achievements of individuals. IMPACT is divi-
ded into a number of volumes, each spanning one decade (space permitting).
The "A" volume for a specific decade presents the stud dogs, the "B" volume
covers the brood bitches and breeders.
IMPACT aims to be a precision tool for the serious fancier and researcher.
Its statistics give absolute and detailed insight into accomplishments of
individuals. In this specific brood bitch and breeders volume, all bitches who
bore four litters or more, and all breeders who produced five litters or more,
receive individual mention and the particulars of their litters are given, i.e.
its birth date, its sire and dam, its breeder, and the number of champions it
produced. However, solely the essence of individual impact is presented in
these IMPACT volumes, in as much as non-productive litters did not receive
consideration. Only those litters were counted from which at least one
offspring was further productive and carried on the line. (Example: If a stud
dog sired a total Or 80 litters, but 50 of them contained only non-productive
offspring, then he received credit only for those 30 litters that had impact on
the development of the American pedigrees.) Thus, no meaningless figures
clutter these statistics.
IMPACT's most conclusive and fascinating features are, wlthout a doubt, the
"impact projectors" (family trees) for all bitches who produced five or more
prolific offspring. The family trees project the future rather than the past,
and pinpoint the precise and long range impact of individuals on the breed.
The trees are, perhaps,a little hard to read, but it's worth the effort!
IMPACT even has a frivolous side, namely the TRIVIA sections. Just for the
fun of it, outrageous records are accumulated here, ranging from the oldest
to the youngest stud dog to beget a litter, and from unusual registered names
to the longest chain of consecutive BlS-winners.
IMPACT was derived from an analysis of the American Stud Books. The rare
photographs were supplied by numerous truly dedicated supporters of the
breed. The champions credited to the individual dogs were accumulated from
the red-book published by the AHCA (the parentage of the champions adjus-
ted to conform with the stud books) and from the American Kennel Gazette.
IMPACT is a one person effort and was compiled from highly complex
material, not flawless in itself. Utmost care has been taken to hold inac-
curacies to a minimum. Should there be queries, please direct them to the
address given on the lead page so that possible errata may be printed in
future volumes.
Enjoy - deduce - and conclude! Get acquainted with the dogs you see and read
about in these volumes, because they ARE the ancestors of your dogs - without
them your Afghans would not be here!
