In order to earn the title Canadian Champion for conformation a dog must be registered with the CKC or have an Event Registration Number (ERN) (for foreign owned dogs). The dog must earn a total of 10 points from three different judges. A maximum of 5 points may be earned at a show. A dog must have at least won Winner dog or bitch to earn championship points and if a Class dog beats Champions of Record (Specials) for Best of Opposite Sex (BOS) it may earn extra points. Points are earned as follows:
Dogs competing 1 2 3-5 6-9 10-12 3 or more Points 0 1 2 3 4 5
Further points may be earned at the Group level depending on the number of breeds represented and the placing you receive in the group. The point schedule for the Group level is:
No. of Breeds 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 13 or more 5 4 3 2 10-12 4 3 2 1 6-9 3 2 1 1 5 2 1 1 1 4 2 1 1 0 3 2 1 0 0 2 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0
Remember, you can only win up to 5 points per show and you earn points by at least winning Winners Dog/Bitch. All dogs defeated directly or indirectly count. For example, if you are the only Afghan entered in the show and are awarded Best of Breed you earn no points. You then advance to Best in Group judging. If there are 11 breeds from the Hound Group in competition and you place first, you earn "4" points and if you go on to Best in Show and win you will be awarded the maximum points allowed for one show - five (5). Sounds complicated but it's no worse than us North Americans trying to figure out the various other countries Championship systems.
